We’re working with a leading global alternative investment firm expanding its Linux support function in London. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with 2-3 years’ experience looking to take the next step - building hands-on experience across trading, infrastructure, security, and systems operations. You’ll operate with meaningful autonomy from the UK office, joining a highly technical environment focused on Red Hat Linux systems, infrastructure automation, identity management, and cross-platform integrations. Prior experience in financial services or similarly high-stakes environments is preferred - but not essential. What matters most is the ability to learn on the job, work across diverse teams, and grow into a broader Linux support and engineering remit with strong potential for long-term progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support and troubleshooting for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across multiple business units and technology platforms.
- Monitor incident queues, prioritise requests and address support tickets efficiently, escalating where necessary.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers and associated storage, networking, and hardware components.
- Maintain and enhance automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code processes using Ansible, Terraform, and Python/Bash.
- Administer and troubleshoot identity and access management tools, including Active Directory integrations and Kerberos-based authentication.
- Collaborate with Windows, Security, and Engineering teams to ensure system performance, integrity, and compliance.
- Conduct detailed root cause analysis following incidents, develop corrective actions, and maintain updated operational documentation.
- Manage filesystem configurations, NFS/CIFS mounts, and storage technologies including LVM and ZFS (where applicable).
- Participate in change control processes, release management, and cross-team project delivery.
- Support hybrid on-prem and cloud infrastructure environments, contributing to continuous platform modernisation initiatives.
- Participate in an on-call rotation (typically one week in every four), providing support for critical production systems out-of-hours.
What You’ll Bring...
- 3+ years’ experience supporting Linux infrastructure within a production environment, ideally as a second-role engineer.
- Hands-on knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) installation, administration, and performance optimisation.
- Confident scripting capability with at least one language such as Bash or Python (flexibility on primary language; willingness to learn is highly valued).
- Experience with configuration management and automation tools, particularly Ansible and Terraform.
- Grasp of identity access management fundamentals, with exposure to Kerberos or equivalent systems.
- Experience with Kubernetes clusters and containerised workloads.
- Familiarity with network services and protocols such as DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, NFS/CIFS, Samba and related services.
- Comfort with analysing system logs, monitoring performance metrics, and proactively resolving issues.
- Organised, methodical, and able to produce high-quality technical documentation and troubleshooting guides.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or hybrid cloud deployment (Preferred).
- Experience supporting Linux systems within financial services, trading, or other regulated, performance-driven industries (Preferred).
- Exposure to ZFS file systems.
