We’re working with a high-growth trading and digital-assets firm seeking a seasoned engineering leader to take ownership of their client-facing technology ecosystem. As the organisation expands into new markets and contends with evolving regulatory demands, this role will spearhead the architecture and delivery of platforms that underpin client onboarding, reporting, data exchange, and compliance workflows. You’ll guide the engineering strategy for a suite of internal and external systems - including CRM tooling, realtime reporting pipelines, API integrations, client portals, and surveillance utilities - while coaching a small but high-impact engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership position where you’ll set the roadmap, refine standards, and shape how the firm delivers secure, reliable, and regulation-ready client technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy for client-facing systems spanning CRM workflows, reporting platforms, and external integration points.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering strong delivery discipline, resilience, and technical growth.
  • Partner closely with commercial and operational stakeholders to understand client needs and translate them into scalable, maintainable solutions.
  • Oversee the design and build of distributed services and APIs that support both realtime and batch data exchange with counterparties.
  • Own the engineering roadmap for the client web portal, ensuring robust authentication, data integrity, auditability, and consistent user experience.
  • Manage the lifecycle of compliance-aligned platforms such as trade-surveillance modules, transaction-monitoring systems, document repositories, and ID-verification capabilities.
  • Drive best practices across code quality, architecture, observability, and secure software development.
  • Ensure systems meet regulatory requirements relating to data handling, retention, reporting, and operational resilience.
  • Coordinate delivery across multiple concurrent projects, maintaining clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate third-party technologies, influence vendor selection, and oversee integration efforts in partnership with legal and compliance teams.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7-12 years of engineering experience, including time as an Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, or Senior Engineer in financial services, trading, fintech, or another high-complexity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and scale distributed systems, client-serving APIs, or multi-component full-stack platforms.
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear design decisions.
  • Hands-on experience working with web technologies (e.g. modern JavaScript frameworks), backend services (Python, Go, or JVM languages), data-integration pipelines, and cloud-native tooling.
  • Understanding of reconciliation workflows, data lineage, and the operational safeguards required for systems that must be accurate, auditable, and failure-tolerant.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in regulated settings, with familiarity around data-protection, security controls, and governance practices typical in finance/fintech.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders across business, compliance, and engineering.
  • A practical, product-focused mindset - solving business problems with technology, not the other way around.
