Our client, a well-established organisation, is moving data from one Salesforce org to another and needs a hands-on contractor to own the migration data workstream end to end. You’ll use Microsoft SQL Server as the staging and transformation layer, taking the work from profiling and mapping through to production cutover.
The technical scope
- Profile source Salesforce data across standard and custom objects: volumes, quality, duplication and dependencies
- Produce object- and field-level mapping documents covering data types, picklists, record types, required fields and validation rules
- Design and maintain SQL Server staging databases and schemas for extracting, cleansing, transforming and staging data
- Write, optimise and test T-SQL (stored procedures, views, ETL logic) to implement transformation and cleansing rules
- Migrate parent/child relationships and record ownership while preserving referential integrity, using source-to-target ID cross-referencing and the correct load order
- Extract and load using tools such as Data Loader, Bulk API, SSIS, Azure Data Factory or dbAmp, with robust error handling and re-runs
- Plan and run multiple migration cycles (dev, test/UAT and production dress rehearsals) and execute the production cutover, including rollback planning
- Design and run reconciliation checks (record counts, field-level comparisons, sampling) and produce sign-off evidence
- Manage migration risks: data volume and API limits, trigger and flow impacts, and sharing/ownership considerations
- Handle personal data in line with GDPR and data governance standards
- Deliver a handover pack: mapping specs, scripts, runbooks and lessons learned
Architect-level candidates will also shape the overall migration approach and standards.
Essential skills
- Proven, hands-on delivery of data migrations between Salesforce orgs, or from other systems into Salesforce, ideally including at least one full production cutover
- Strong knowledge of the Salesforce data model: standard objects (Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, Case, User), custom objects, lookup and master-detail relationships, record types and field types
- Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills: stored procedures, joins across large data sets, performance tuning and data quality checks
- Experience with Salesforce extraction and loading tools (Data Loader, Bulk API, SSIS, ADF, Informatica, Talend, Boomi, dbAmp or similar)
- Solid experience in data profiling, cleansing, deduplication and mapping, with a methodical approach to reconciliation and audit trails
- Understanding of ownership and sharing, validation rules, triggers/flows, API limits and managing record IDs across orgs
- Awareness of GDPR and secure handling of customer data
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical data concepts to business stakeholders and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Salesforce certifications (Data Architecture and Management Designer, Administrator, Platform App Builder)
- Multi-org consolidation or org merge/split experience
- Sales Cloud and/or Service Cloud experience, ideally in a customer-facing retail or automotive-type environment
- Migration of attachments, files and content (ContentVersion, ContentDocumentLink)
- Power BI or similar for reconciliation and progress reporting
