Detailed Job Description:
As a Telecoms Electrician / Rigger supporting MLR Associates Ltd on an Outside IR35 contract basis across various locations in the UK (operating in teams of 2), you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of cell site electrical installations, DC power systems, structural rigging, and antenna/feeder deployments. Your day-to-day responsibilities include installing AC/DC power distribution units, circuit breakers, rectifiers, and alarm wiring, executing tower climbing, structural rigging, antenna hoisting, feeder cable routing, and grounding, traveling safely between cell site locations across the UK, adhering strictly to health and safety regulations, and collaborating closely with commissioning engineers and project managers. You will utilize your proactive troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills to resolve complex physical installation bottlenecks under strict project delivery milestones. Furthermore, you will manage application requirements by ensuring strict compliance with the team of 2 format, Outside IR35 terms, own tools, vehicle, and insurance prerequisites.
- Execute hands-on electrical installation, wiring, and testing of AC/DC power systems, rectifiers, and distribution boards on telecom sites.
- Perform advanced tower rigging, structural modification, antenna mounting, RRU installation, and feeder cable routing.
- Ensure rigorous earthing, grounding, and lightning protection compliance across all electrical and tower installations.
- Operate safely at height on cellular towers, monopoles, and rooftops utilizing certified fall protection and rigging equipment.
- Transport required heavy tools, equipment, and materials safely between multiple cell site locations across the UK.
- Conduct thorough pre-installation site surveys, civil inspections, and post-installation Snagging audits.
- Collaborate seamlessly with Nokia RBS commissioners, network operations teams, and client safety officers.
- Author meticulous electrical test sheets, tower installation certificates, closeout photo logs, and health & safety records.
- Recognized electrical engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds in Electrical Installations, or equivalent trade certification).
- Minimum of 3+ years of progressive professional experience in telecommunications electrical installations and tower rigging.
- Strong, demonstrable hands-on operational experience with AC/DC power systems, rectifiers, and telecom cabling.
- Certified competency in tower climbing, rescue at height, RF awareness, and structural rigging safety standards.
- Proven operational experience working in established 2-person field deployment teams for safe and efficient site execution.
- Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities under active outdoor field environments.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with strong safety-conscious and collaborative abilities.
- Mandatory ownership of professional electrical and rigging tools, reliable transport vehicle, and valid business/liability and climbing insurances.
- Mandatory legal work eligibility and physical availability for contractor operations across the UK (Outside IR35 contract).
- Industry-recognized safety certifications such as G35, Rooftop Safety, First Aid, IPAF, or CSR/ECS cards.
- Prior professional working experience supporting major UK mobile network operators and infrastructure providers (Arqiva, Cornerstone, MBNL).
- Advanced practical knowledge of fiber optic cabling, testing, and connector splicing on towers.
- Experience managing on-site logistics and material inventory for multi-site rollouts.
