We're recruiting on behalf of a commercial vehicle manufacturer for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Chassis Team. You'll take a leading role developing and delivering next-generation products, from concept through to production, while mentoring junior engineers and acting as a technical authority within the team. This role requires someone with 5+ years of industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and validation of new chassis systems and components, concept to production sign-off
  • Act as technical authority - providing design direction and engineering guidance across the team
  • Own product launches and resolve complex production and field issues
  • Investigate service issues, identify root causes, and implement robust solutions
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting team capability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, procurement, and programme management

Qualifications

Essential: HNC / HND / BEng Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Desirable: MEng or Chartered Engineer (CEng)

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years in mechanical design, ideally automotive or commercial vehicle
  • Strong engineering fundamentals - stress, fatigue, materials, design methodology
  • Advanced CAD proficiency (Solid Edge preferred), BS8888, GD&T, BOM management
  • Proven experience with DFM/DFA and manufacturing processes
  • Confident communicator - able to present to stakeholders at all levels
  • Able to lead independently and manage competing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
