The opportunity: We're working with a well established UK automotive manufacturer who are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the team. You will take electrical designs from concept to production, detailing electrical systems and components for heavy trucks, including 2D harness design, component selection, and integration with 3D engineers and the systems team.
Responsibilities:
- Design 2D harnesses and select electrical components for HGVs and yellow goods.
- Work closely with 3D design engineers, systems teams, and internal/external suppliers.
- Secure installation and application approvals.
- Compile Engineering Master Parts Lists (BOM) and release design documentation.
- Contribute to product testing, test results analysis, and problem–solving for associated systems/parts.
- Maintain quality and environmental compliance records.
- Communicate effectively across all levels of the business.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- At least 3 years' experience in relevant electrical engineering roles.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems (EDS) and 2D harness design.
- Understanding of required quality standards in a manufacturing environment.
- ISO standards knowledge for EDS design.
- Liaison with internal/external suppliers and engineering change control.
- Problem–solving skills (8D, A3) and attention to detail.
- Degree in Electrical or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience/competence.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Schematic design, 3D harness routing, Zuken E3 or similar software.
- V–model validation, Six Sigma, ISO26262 system design.
- DFMEA participation, workload/project management, training/coaching.
- Knowledge of truck chassis systems, vehicle software/hardware systems.
- Member of a recognised engineering institution (e.g., IET).
Other Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to travel within the UK for production support; occasional overseas travel.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
- Proactive, accountable, and able to manage workload effectively.
Working Hours: Mon–Thu 08:00–16:30, Fri 08:00–13:00 (37 hours per week). Hybrid working (3 days office/ 2 days WFH)
