We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to support operations on a temporary basis for approximately 3-6 months at a manufacturing and engineering facility in Cambridge. This is a hands-on role focused on enhancing existing health & safety systems, supporting compliance initiatives, reviewing procedures and practices, and helping drive continuous improvement across the business. The successful contractor will work closely with operational departments and leadership teams to promote a positive safety culture and ensure practical, effective safety management across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, improve, and maintain H&S procedures and documentation
- Support compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and EHS standards
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions
- Deliver practical safety guidance and toolbox talks where required
- Support ongoing H&S improvement initiatives and compliance activities
- Assist with contractor management and safe systems of work
- Work collaboratively with managers and employees to improve safety awareness and behaviours
- Provide pragmatic support to improve overall site safety standards
About You
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice
- Confident carrying out risk assessments, audits, and safety inspections
- Able to engage effectively with employees at all levels of the business
- Practical, organised, and solutions-focused approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) preferred
- IOSH membership or similar professional accreditation advantageous
- Experience within fabrication, machinery, manufacturing, or industrial environments would be beneficial
