This is more than just a contract role - it’s an opportunity to support the safety and assurance of complex, mission-critical systems within the UK defence sector. As a Senior Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the safety lifecycle of advanced engineering systems, ensuring robust safety processes are embedded from concept through to delivery and in-service support.
Working within a specialist engineering team, you will collaborate across multiple disciplines to influence design decisions, mitigate risk, and help deliver safe, reliable solutions across high-profile defence programmes. This role would suit an experienced engineer looking to apply their expertise within a technically challenging and highly regulated environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Delivering safety engineering activities across complex defence programmes
- Supporting hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation activities
- Conducting and contributing to safety studies including HAZOP, FFA, FTA, FMECA and LOPA
- Defining system safety requirements and supporting safety targets
- Producing high-quality safety cases, reports and technical documentation
- Participating in design reviews, risk meetings and safety committees
- Working closely with systems, hardware, software and project teams to ensure safe design outcomes
- Providing clear, evidence-based safety recommendations to key stakeholders
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience within a safety engineering environment, ideally defence, aerospace, maritime or other highly regulated sectors
- Strong understanding of functional or product safety principles
- Familiarity with recognised safety standards such as IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056
- Knowledge of hardware/software failure modes and reliability principles
- Experience with hazard analysis, FMECA, FTA or similar techniques
- Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent experience in Engineering or related discipline

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be UK Nationals and eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
