A global powerhouse within the engineering and technology space is looking to hire a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their team in Bristol. This is a hybrid role with a minimum of three days per week in the office. You’ll be working within a dedicated team focused on the development and delivery of Low Voltage Power Distribution Systems. In this role, you will work on the pinnacle of engineering projects within the defence/marine sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and optimisation of low-voltage electrical power systems to meet bespoke customer requirements.
- Deliver technical outcomes across complex projects, providing direction and guidance to junior engineers where required.
- Solve challenging technical issues using sound engineering principles and practical experience.
- Present and explain complex technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support team development through coaching, mentoring, and input into performance reviews.
- Oversee product testing and validation from initial concept through to final delivery.
- Represent the company in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, including occasional travel to external sites.
- Author and review key technical documentation and reports to support project milestones.
Key Requirements:
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in electrical system design, particularly within AC and DC low voltage distribution.
- Strong technical judgement and ability to deliver robust engineering solutions independently.
- Comfortable leading projects and mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines and budgets.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Working knowledge of marine electrical standards (e.g. IEC61439, Def Stans, Class Society rules).
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards professional registration.
- Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Paladin, ETAP, or Mathcad.
