A specialist manufacturing organisation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and deliver high-precision tooling used in regulated, high-reliability production. This role focuses on creating jigs, fixtures, and specialist tooling to improve assembly accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency. You will work closely with engineering and production teams to take tooling from concept through to production use within a controlled clean-room environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop precision jigs, fixtures, alignment tools, and handling equipment for micro-assembly and testing
- Produce 3D models, assemblies, and fully toleranced drawings using SolidWorks, Creo, or similar CAD software
- Develop tooling suitable for clean-room and ESD-controlled environments
- Support laser-based manufacturing processes, including alignment and thermal considerations
- Work with production teams to troubleshoot issues and improve repeatability and throughput
- Collaborate with suppliers and procurement to deliver cost-effective, compliant tooling solutions
- Support first-article builds and process validation
Background & Experience:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Experience designing precision tooling, jigs, or fixtures, ideally in electronics, micro-assembly, or regulated manufacturing
- Strong CAD skills and experience producing detailed technical drawings
- Understanding of precision machining, material selection, and manufacturing processes
- Awareness of clean-room practices and ESD controls
- Exposure to laser processing, optics, vacuum systems, automation, or basic FEA is a plus
Additional Requirements:
- Eligible for UK Security Check (SC) clearance
- Occasional travel to suppliers or other sites may be required
