We are currently recruiting for an RF Engineering Lead to join an innovative engineering business delivering advanced technology solutions across aerospace, defence, and space applications. This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex RF and microwave development projects while leading a highly skilled engineering team in a technically challenging and rewarding environment. This role would suit an experienced RF Engineer looking to step into a broader leadership position, or an established RF Lead seeking a new challenge where they can influence both technical direction and team development.
As RF Engineering Lead, you will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance RF and microwave systems. You will be responsible for driving technical excellence across projects, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to production, while mentoring and developing a team of RF engineers and technicians. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and customers to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable solutions for highly regulated and mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of RF and microwave circuits, subsystems, and architectures
- Define RF system architectures including cascade analysis and link budgets for radar, telemetry, and communications systems
- Oversee RF simulation, analysis, and validation activities using tools such as ADS, AWR, HFSS, CST, and MATLAB
- Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, environmental, and manufacturability requirements
- Act as the technical authority for RF engineering across multiple projects
- Support design reviews including PDR, CDR, and TRR activities
- Collaborate with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams
- Support new product introduction activities and transition into production
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of RF engineers and technicians
- Support bids and proposals through technical input, estimation, and risk assessment
- Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customers and external partners
- Drive continuous improvement across RF engineering processes, tools, and methodologies
What We Are Looking For
- Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong background in RF and microwave engineering including circuit design, simulation, integration, and testing
- Experience working within aerospace, defence, space, or other highly regulated industries
- Hands-on experience with RF simulation tools and laboratory equipment including VNAs and spectrum analysers
- Proven experience leading engineering teams or technical project delivery
- Strong understanding of product development lifecycles and engineering best practice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
