We are recruiting for an experienced Nuclear Project Engineer to join a major project based in Dungeness on a 2-year contract. This role requires proven experience within the nuclear sector, working in a disciplined engineering environment on an industrial plant.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering engineering solutions within a highly regulated environment, supporting projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
The Role
As Nuclear Project Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying project requirements, developing engineering solutions, and ensuring technical delivery aligns with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. You will contribute to the full project lifecycle, including design development, safety case input, construction oversight, commissioning, and final handover to operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify functional requirements and stakeholder needs for assigned projects
- Contribute to the Project Execution Plan, including design, safety case, and commissioning strategies
- Support optioneering and concept design development
- Develop fit-for-purpose engineering solutions
- Produce and approve technical specifications
- Manage detailed design activities in line with design authority standards
- Prepare modification proposals and act as Nominated Responsible Engineer (NRE) where appointed
- Review and technically assess contractor method statements and risk assessments
- Provide technical supervision of construction and deconstruction activities
- Approve as-built documentation and manage configuration control
- Specify and supervise commissioning and/or decommissioning activities
- Manage handover to operations, ensuring full documentation and training provision
- Conduct event reviews and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement
- Ensure full compliance with Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality standards
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience within the nuclear sector (essential)
- HNC, Degree, or NQF Level 5/6 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Experience in a disciplined engineering role on an industrial plant
- Nuclear and/or conventional project engineering experience
- Understanding of relevant company and national engineering standards
- Candidate must hold or be willing to obtain Triple Bar status (training costs covered by client)
Desirable
- Knowledge of Safety Rules and risk assessment methodology
- Understanding of Site Licence Conditions and Quality Management Systems
- Working knowledge of CDM Designer role
- Contract management and project delivery experience
- Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution
- Chartered status advantageous
Additional Requirements
- Candidate must fund and complete Drugs & Alcohol testing and DBS check prior to starting (costs not reimbursed)
- Must be eligible to work within a high-security regulated environment
