Job Description

A leading engineering company is seeking a Control Systems Engineer for a 12-month contract (Inside IR35) to focus on the design, development, and integration of safety-critical control systems. This fully on-site role involves working across system architecture, instrumentation, and operator interface design to ensure robust, safe, and compliant control solutions.

This is an on-site position, full time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and integrate control system architectures, including SCADA, DCS, and PLC-based solutions
  • Collaborate with instrumentation, electrical, and human factors teams to ensure seamless system performance
  • Support the development of HMI displays and operator interfaces as part of wider control system delivery
  • Apply functional safety principles (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511) and alarm management strategies in system design
  • Produce detailed design documentation, control philosophies, and system specifications
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in control systems engineering (SCADA / DCS / PLC / HMI)
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control system integration
  • Experience with functional safety standards and lifecycle management
  • Understanding of alarm management and human factors in control systems
  • Ability to produce design documentation, specifications, and system diagrams
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Eligibility to work fully on-site for the duration of the contract
