An established technology consultancy operating in the UK defence and security space is seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer to join its Cambridge-based team. This role sits at the heart of developing breakthrough technologies that address complex real-world challenges across defence, security and advanced engineering domains.
You will work alongside highly skilled, multidisciplinary teams including scientists, engineers and designers, contributing to innovative projects from early concept through to working prototype. The environment is agile, technically demanding and varied, offering the opportunity to see ideas rapidly translated into tangible outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Capturing and defining requirements
- FPGA architecture and firmware design
- Development and implementation using VHDL and or Verilog
- Documentation, verification and testing
- Supporting delivery through to prototype production
Projects typically range from proof-of-concept work through to fully functioning prototypes, providing both intellectual challenge and hands-on technical depth.
Requirements
- 3+ years of commercial experience in FPGA firmware development
- Strong experience with VHDL and or Verilog
- Familiarity with FPGA toolchains such as Vivado or Quartus
- Proven ability to design and implement complex technical solutions
- Relevant degree in electronic engineering or a related discipline
Desirable experience
- DSP or system modelling using MATLAB and or Simulink
- Digital Signal Processing algorithm development
- Electronics design and development
- Embedded software development in C and or C++ on Linux
- Experience with RADAR, communications systems or SDRs
- Experience within the defence sector is advantageous but not essential.
