Junior Maintenance Engineer

Salary: £35,000 – £40,000

Hours: 48 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Monday–Friday / Tuesday–Saturday

On-site role, driving licence and own transport required due to location

We're recruiting for a Junior Maintenance Engineer to join a busy food manufacturing site in Norfolk.

This position is specifically aimed at someone who is early in their engineering career. You might have recently completed an engineering apprenticeship or qualification, or perhaps have gained your first year or two of hands‑on experience and are now looking for somewhere you can continue learning.

You'll join an established engineering team who can support your development while you gain practical experience maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment in a working food production environment.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a general, hands‑on maintenance engineering position. You'll gradually develop your experience across:

  • Planned and preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Mechanical maintenance and repairs
  • Basic electrical maintenance and fault finding
  • Responding to machinery breakdowns
  • Identifying and diagnosing equipment faults
  • Bearings, motors, gearboxes, conveyors and other production equipment
  • Supporting machinery changeovers and adjustments
  • General engineering tasks around the production site
  • Working alongside experienced Maintenance Engineers to develop your technical knowledge

As your experience grows, you'll be given greater responsibility for maintenance and fault finding across the site.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • An Engineering Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC/HND or similar engineering qualification
  • A basic understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Some practical experience working with machinery or equipment
  • An interest in developing a career within maintenance engineering
  • A hands‑on approach and willingness to learn
  • Good problem‑solving skills
  • The ability to work within a busy manufacturing environment

Food or FMCG experience is not essential. We're happy to consider someone from another engineering, manufacturing or production environment who wants to develop their skills within food manufacturing.

Working Hours

The position is based on a 48-hour working week, rotating between:

  • Monday–Friday: 07:00 – 17:10
  • Tuesday–Saturday: Tuesday–Friday 08:50 – 19:00, Saturday 07:00 – 17:10

What’s on Offer?

  • £35,000 – £40,000 salary
  • Opportunity to develop into a fully‑fledged Maintenance Engineer
  • Hands‑on mechanical and electrical experience
  • Training and support from experienced engineers
  • Exposure to a wide range of food production and manufacturing equipment
  • Long‑term engineering career development

This could be an excellent next step if you've completed your engineering training but haven't yet had the opportunity to build substantial maintenance experience.

If you're locally based, mechanically/electrically minded and looking to build a career in maintenance engineering, we'd like to hear from you
