The Opportunity
This is more than just a contract role - it's an opportunity to support the safety and assurance of complex, mission-critical systems within the UK defence sector. As a Senior Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the safety lifecycle of advanced engineering systems, ensuring robust safety processes are embedded from concept through to delivery and in-service support. Working within a specialist engineering team, you will collaborate across multiple disciplines to influence design decisions, mitigate risk, and help deliver safe, reliable solutions across high-profile defence programmes. This role would suit an experienced engineer looking to apply their expertise within a technically challenging and highly regulated environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Delivering safety engineering activities across complex defence programmes
- Supporting hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation activities
- Conducting and contributing to safety studies including HAZOP, FFA, FTA, FMECA and LOPA
- Defining system safety requirements and supporting safety targets
- Producing high-quality safety cases, reports and technical documentation
- Participating in design reviews, risk meetings and safety committees
- Working closely with systems, hardware, software and project teams to ensure safe design outcomes
- Providing clear, evidence-based safety recommendations to key stakeholders
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience within a safety engineering environment, ideally defence, aerospace, maritime or other highly regulated sectors
- Strong understanding of functional or product safety principles
- Familiarity with recognised safety standards such as IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056
- Knowledge of hardware/software failure modes and reliability principles
- Experience with hazard analysis, FMECA, FTA or similar techniques
- Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent experience in Engineering or related discipline

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be UK Sole Nationals and eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
