We are looking for a proactive and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly team across two GP surgeries. This part-time position is ideally around 30 hours. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be confident working as part of a wider clinical team. Phlebotomy is essential, and experience in a general practice setting and with EMIS Web is desirable. Candidates should also have their own transport, as travel between sites will be required.

As part of the role, you will also:

  • Support the nursing team with general clinical administration
  • Assist with stock ordering and management (full training will be provided)
  • Ideally be able to give B12, flu and pneumonia vaccinations or be willing to undergo training

Main duties of the job include:

  • Phlebotomy - taking blood samples from patients as required
  • Undertaking NHS Health Checks (training will be provided)
  • Supporting the nursing team with clinical administration, including monitoring recalls, preparing clinics, and maintaining documentation
  • Assisting with stock control including ordering clinical supplies, checking stock levels, and ensuring appropriate storage (full training provided)
  • Providing vaccination support, including administration of B12, flu, and pneumonia vaccines (training available if not already trained)
  • Working towards gaining additional clinical skills, such as performing ECGs, carrying out diabetic foot checks, and assisting with other chronic disease monitoring tasks
  • Using the EMIS Web clinical system to accurately input and manage patient records (training can be provided)
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and working in accordance with GDPR and clinical governance standards
  • Communicating effectively with patients, clinicians, and administrative staff to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Adhering to infection prevention and control measures, health and safety protocols, and practice policies at all times
  • Participating in team meetings, audits, and ongoing training and development activities

About us: We are a friendly and forward-thinking GP practice serving a population of approximately 6,000 patients across two sites, located in Blythe Bridge and Tean. Our clinical team includes 3 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, and we are proud to be a training practice, regularly supporting GP trainees as part of their education and development. We are also supported by a range of ARRS staff, helping to enhance the care we offer our patients through multidisciplinary working. Our nursing team consists of two full-time practice nurses and one part-time locum nurse, who work closely together to provide high-quality, patient-centred care. Job responsibilities: We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Healthcare Support Worker to join our practice team, working 30 hours per week over four days across our two sites in Blythe Bridge and Tean. The successful candidate will support the nursing and clinical teams by delivering a range of patient care and administrative tasks. This includes phlebotomy, supporting health checks, vaccination administration (including B12, flu and pneumonia where trained), and stock ordering. You will also assist with clinical admin, help maintain patient records, and contribute to the smooth running of clinics. You'll need to be flexible, able to travel between sites, and willing to cover staff absences. Experience in a general practice setting and familiarity with EMIS Web are desirable, though training can be provided. As a growing and supportive training practice, we're also keen to offer development opportunities, including training in ECGs, diabetic foot checks, and other chronic disease monitoring to enhance the support you provide to the nursing team.

Person Specification:

  • Phlebotomy training and competency is essential for this role.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to undertake further clinical training, including ECGs, NHS Health Checks, diabetic foot checks, and vaccinations if not already trained.
  • Training in the administration of B12, flu, and pneumonia vaccinations is desirable, though training can be provided.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development or a willingness to engage in further training is expected.
  • A relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care is desirable.
