Lead Developer – WordPress
We are looking for a Lead Developer with deep WordPress plugin development experience to join our growing, ambitious team. You will manage a small global team and oversee the development and maintenance of UpdraftPlus, ensuring high‑quality code and delivery of new features. Remote work is fully supported with flexible hours (32‑40 per week) and a requirement of 4 hours of UK work‑hour overlap per day.
Base pay range
$40,000 / yr – $75,000 / yr (competitive, depending on experience)
What you’ll be doing
- Work in PHP, JavaScript and WordPress libraries to write clean, efficient and secure code
- Line‑manage the plugin development team
- Ensure tasks are appropriately assigned, reviewed, and completed by the team
- Maintain high technical standards in the code base
- Utilise the lead architect’s knowledge to achieve the best direction for the plugin
- Identify priorities, resolve blockers
- Act as the key point of contact for technical queries related to the plugin
- Liaise with QA and Product Managers to align development work with wider business goals
Requirements
- PHP – experience developing WordPress plugins
- JavaScript – solid knowledge, though a smaller part of the role
- Managing other developers
- Working with key stakeholders
- GitHub / GitLab / Git experience is a plus (can be learned quickly)
