In this front-line role, you’ll be based at either the Inbound or Outbound Gatehouse, where you’ll play a key part in the smooth and efficient flow of trailers through our hub. Using our Yard Management System, you’ll be the first point of contact for visitors to site and responsible for booking and checking vehicles and trailers in and out of site, coordinating parking and trailer movements within the yard according to operational needs accurately and efficiently. What you’ll be doing:
- Booking Trailers into the Hub: Utilising our advanced Yard Management System (C3), you’ll accurately manage the booking in and out of all inbound and outbound trailers. Your attention to detail will help maintain real-time visibility of trailer movements and ensure efficient flow through the site.
- Carrying Out Regular Yard Checks: You’ll be responsible for performing comprehensive yard checks at regular intervals throughout your shift. This includes monitoring trailer positions, ensuring correct bay allocations, and verifying compliance with health, safety, and operational standards.
- Supporting Yard Operations & Shunters: Act as a key liaison between the Gatehouse and Shunting teams. You’ll respond to trailer-related queries, provide clear instructions on trailer positioning, and help coordinate timely trailer movements to and from designated bays.
- Monitoring Yard Activity: Maintain constant awareness of all yard activity, identifying any inconsistencies or operational issues. You’ll work closely with the Operations Managers to resolve problems quickly and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
What we need from you:
- Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment advantageous.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, to welcome visitors professionally and take a team working approach to liaising with colleagues across departments.
- Able to work independently without supervision, remain calm under pressure.
- Basic IT skills, i.e. email, MS Excel and ability to learn internal IT systems (C3 Yard Management System).
- Accurate with strong attention to detail.
- Understanding and appreciation for health and safety compliance.
- The legal right to work in the UK – this is a requirement for all applicants.
