As a Senior Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of complex engine components and systems, contributing to new product introduction projects from concept through to production. Working within a collaborative global environment, you will engage with manufacturing teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver robust engineering solutions that meet performance, durability, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and package engine components, including:
- Aluminium and cast iron castings
- Geartrain systems
- Contribute to the development of engine subsystems, including:
- Lubrication systems
- Cooling systems
- Breather systems
- Front‑end accessory drive (FEAD) systems
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop solutions that meet functional, durability, manufacturing and customer requirements.
- Lead and manage engineering tasks and project deliverables, ensuring activities are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
- Conduct design risk assessments using FMEA methodologies and define validation requirements.
- Prepare and facilitate design reviews with key stakeholders.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings and technical documentation for prototype and production release.
- Work closely with suppliers using APQP tools and methodologies to support component development and production readiness.
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers and cross‑functional teams across global locations.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, risks and technical challenges.
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within internal combustion engine development.
- Minimum 5–6 years of CAD‑based design experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Creo (Creo 10 preferred).
- Solid understanding of internal combustion engine operation and engine subsystem interactions.
- Experience designing engine and mechanical components, including knowledge of:
- Rotating systems
- Valvetrain systems
- Lubrication systems
- Cooling systems
- Breather systems
- Bolted joints and sealing solutions.
- Strong understanding of cast iron and aluminium casting design and associated machining processes.
- Good knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Ability to lead technical activities and manage multiple deliverables.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working directly with external suppliers to develop engineering solutions.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience with Teamcenter or similar product lifecycle/data management systems.
- Practical experience conducting or participating in FMEA activities.
- Knowledge of component and engine validation and verification processes.
- Experience within off‑highway diesel, heavy equipment, machinery, automotive, or related industries.
- Exposure to alternative fuels or spark‑ignited engine technologies.
- Familiarity with APQP methodologies and tools.
Ideal Background
We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience in:
- Internal combustion engines (3–5+ years preferred)
- Diesel and off‑highway diesel engine applications
- Heavy machinery, industrial equipment, automotive, powertrain or aerospace sectors where transferable engine design skills have been developed
Key Technical Requirements
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong capability in:
- Internal combustion engine operation and design principles
- Mechanical design and CAD modelling
