Teamforce Labour are actively seeking an experienced Lead Miner for an immediate start in Fleetwood, Lancashire (FY7). This role is supporting a major and complex emergency infrastructure repair involving a burst water main located approximately 6 metres underground near The Strand and Broadway. The project involves deep excavation within a congested utility corridor and presents significant engineering and environmental challenges, including:
- Working at depth (6m) in confined space conditions
- Close proximity to live gas and electricity services
- Continuous tidal water ingress, requiring 24-hour pumping operations
- Round-the-clock working to maintain safety and programme
This is a technically demanding project requiring a highly experienced Lead Miner capable of supervising underground operations, coordinating crews, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate a team of miners within a deep excavation/tunnelling environment
- Oversee hand mining operations and installation of timber headings and ground support systems
- Ensure works are carried out safely within confined space conditions
- Supervise safe working practices around live utility services
- Monitor and manage productivity, quality, and adherence to programme
- Ensure compliance with all health & safety procedures and safe systems of work
- Support the Pit Boss and site management with daily planning and task allocation
- Assist with shift handovers within a 24-hour operational environment
Requirements:
- Have extensive experience working as a Miner within the UK tunnelling industry
- Have demonstrable experience acting in a supervisory or Lead Miner capacity
- Have strong experience in timber heading installation
- Hold a valid TSTS (Tunnel Safety Training Scheme)
- Hold valid Confined Space certification (Medium or High Risk preferred)
- Hold a valid CSCS Card
- Be comfortable working on 24-hour shift patterns
- Provide an up-to-date CV
- Provide two recent and relevant references
