Software Engineer | π Belfast (Hybrid) | π° Competitive salary + benefits
TeamFeePay (TFP) is one of the biggest grassroots football club management platforms in the UK. We support over 2,000 football clubs and 250,000+ coaches, players, parents and guardians on the platform, and we're now expanding into Italy, Spain and the rest of Europe.
We're a scale-up growing rapidly, and engineering is core to that growth.
β About our Engineering Team
We're organised into three squads: Pitchside Experience, Clubhouse Experience and Platform. Together, we build the products, services and infrastructure that help grassroots football clubs run more effectively.
Our engineers work across mobile applications, web experiences, backend services, payments and infrastructure. We value collaboration across squads, shared ownership and finding the right technical solutions to real problems.
We're looking for engineers who bring strong technical foundations, good problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn. You don't need to have worked with our exact technology stack before, and we don't ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.
π Your day-to-day
-
Take ownership of developing and delivering software features, from understanding requirements through to production, with light guidance and oversight.
-
Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code, following established engineering practices.
-
Solve technical problems independently, knowing when to ask for help or involve others.
-
Debug and troubleshoot issues effectively, considering performance, reliability and error handling as part of your work.
-
Work closely with product managers, designers and other engineers to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
-
Contribute to technical discussions, offering ideas and helping identify opportunities to improve our software.
-
Participate in code reviews, share knowledge and support your teammates.
-
Take responsibility for the quality of your work, including testing, deployment and addressing issues after release.
π€© You should apply if
-
You have professional software development experience and can demonstrate your ability to build and deliver reliable software.
-
You're comfortable working in at least one area of software engineering, whether that's frontend, backend, mobile or across the full stack.
-
You can take ownership of a feature from start to finish, working independently with occasional guidance.
-
You understand software engineering fundamentals, including writing maintainable code, testing, debugging and handling errors.
-
You're able to break down problems into manageable tasks and make sensible technical decisions.
-
You're comfortable learning new technologies and developing skills outside your existing experience.
-
You have a product mindset: you care about the problems we're solving and the people using our software, rather than simply implementing requirements.
-
You communicate clearly, work well with others and are comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback.
-
You enjoy learning from other engineers and sharing what you know with your teammates.
You don't need experience with every technology we use. We're more interested in your engineering fundamentals, problem-solving ability and willingness to learn than whether you've worked with a particular framework or language.
π οΈ What you'll be working on
Our technology stack includes:
-
Ruby on Rails for our backend services and APIs
-
PostgreSQL for our database layer
-
React Native for our mobile applications
-
React for our evolving web frontend, alongside Rails with Turbo, Hotwire and Stimulus
-
Stripe to power membership payments, club shops and fundraising
-
Heroku for our current infrastructure, with plans to move to a new platform
Depending on your strengths and the needs of the team, you could be working on customer-facing features, backend services, payments or a combination of these.
We're continually improving our products and technology, so you'll have opportunities to learn new skills, contribute ideas and grow your technical experience.
π Level & career progression
We're hiring at IC2 (Software Engineer) on our engineering career ladder.
At this level, you'll take ownership of individual features, delivering them end-to-end with light oversight, from understanding requirements through to rollout.
You'll be expected to work independently on well-defined problems, make sound technical decisions within your area of responsibility and contribute positively to the quality and delivery of your team's work.
As you develop, you'll have opportunities to take on more complex challenges, broaden your technical skills and increase your impact across the team.
We interview across our engineering career framework, so if you're unsure exactly where your experience fits, talk to our recruiter and we'll figure it out together.
