Job Description
Lead Software Engineer – The Innovation Center, Catalyst, Queens Rd, Belfast BT3 9DT, United Kingdom (Hybrid) | Competitive salary + benefits
TeamFeePay (TFP) is a grassroots football club management platform supporting over 2,000 football clubs and 250,000+ coaches, players, parents and guardians. We are expanding internationally and engineering is core to growth.
About Our Engineering Team
We’re organized into three squads: Pitchside Experience, Clubhouse Experience and Platform. This role sits in Clubhouse Experience focused on club administration tools.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for Clubhouse Experience and align other engineers around a shared plan without needing to review or write every line yourself.
- Act as a force multiplier: find the highest‑leverage problem across the squad and land it through and with other engineers.
- Move fluidly across our Rails API, Postgres data layer, React web app and React Native app to unblock the squad wherever the constraint is.
- Mentor senior engineers and grow the technical bench within Clubhouse Experience and beyond.
Qualifications
- You have experience being the tech lead of a squad.
- You’re full‑stack (preferred), but we care more about your track record leading technical direction than any one stack.
- You have strong experience in software development.
- You’re comfortable making architecture calls other engineers will build on for years.
- You enjoy cross‑team alignment work: writing docs and having conversations that get a squad pointed the same way.
- You have a product mindset: you're comfortable critiquing designs and understanding user journeys to help land on the best solution, not just implementing what's handed to you.
- You want to help shape how club admins and committees experience TFP.
- You don't need prior Ruby experience to apply. If you're a strong backend engineer with experience in another language (e.g., Node, Python, Java, PHP, Go), we'd love to hear from you: we'll support you in picking up Rails.
Technical Skills
- Ruby on Rails for the API layer.
- React for web and React Native for mobile.
- Postgres database.
- Stripe for payments.
- Infrastructure currently on Heroku, moving off soon.
Benefits
- Competitive salary + benefits.
- Belfast tech hub, hybrid working.
- Free car parking and office snacks.
- Flexible working hours.
- Access to the latest AI models.
Career Path
We’re hiring at IC4 (Lead Engineer). Scope: multiple teams / a domain. You will hold the technical lead role for a squad, setting direction with no direct reports or people‑management authority.
