A well-established and growing main contractor with an excellent reputation across the industry has a rare and exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Director from within the industrial/construction sector. Along with a salary of £100,000 per annum, you will also receive a range of benefits including a bonus scheme, car allowance, plus more benefits!

Known for delivering a personalised service and adapting its approach to suit individual client needs, the company delivers projects valued between £5m and £25m on average. Reporting into the Managing Director, you will lead on the management, direction and successful completion of all client building projects and in helping to shape the future of the business.

The new Commercial Director will

  • Oversee the commercial performance of construction projects from pre-contract through to final account
  • Lead contract negotiation and management with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Develop project budgets, forecasts and financial reports in conjunction with project teams
  • Have control and oversight of all financial aspects of each project, including cash flow and ensuring prompt payment applications and collections
  • Lead and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff
  • Coordinate with site management, planning, legal and finance teams
  • Have responsibility for the risk and compliance aspects of all projects, implementing mitigation strategies as required, and dealing with dispute resolution and adjudication processes as required

The successful Commercial Director

  • Holds a degree in Quantity Surveying, construction management or related field (RICS accreditation is desirable)
  • Has extensive commercial experience in the construction industry
  • Is highly experienced in standard construction contracts (JCT, NEC etc)
  • Will be an astute negotiator with sound analytical and leadership skills
  • Is skilled in managing interpersonal and stakeholder relationships to ensure the right outcome every time
  • Can demonstrate proven experience in budgeting, forecasting and cost control on large scale projects
  • Is used to managing multiple, concurrent projects and deadlines at any one time,
  • Is proficient in working with construction-related financial software or has a track record in implementing reliable, robust procedures to manage the commercial process
  • Will be a highly skilled people manager and leader
