Responsible for various welding and fabrication processes. Should be able to work well in both individual and group settings to complete the task at hand. When working alone, the employee will be responsible for set-up, layout and completion of the given project. The work will cover a wide variety of tasks including but not limited to racecar body installation, pit support equipment and shop equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Fabricate any number of materials and components to meet Team Penske requirements as directed by management and engineering.
- Work will include, but not be limited to, cutting and shaping metal, bending and preparing tubing, welding items (MIG and TIG), utilizing manual machine equipment, drill press, shears, brakes, rollers, rotary punch, die work, carbon panel repair, composite adhesion, heat shield application, cleaning and deburring materials, and grinding and preparing edges and broader surfaces for adhesive, welding, or paint as directed by management and engineering.
- Assist other team members as needed within Fabrication area.
- Document preparation, work routines, and measurements in a manner that allows them to be repeated in a consistent fashion by others as needed.
- Communicate with engineering and other quality control personnel on a regular basis, working to continually improve our processes for speed and accuracy to ensure repeatable performance, matching the supplied engineering drawings, and aligning with appropriate racing series regulations (e.g., IMSA, NASCAR, Indy Car).
- Prepare any variety of items to be painted or wrapped.
- Sanding, body filling, smoothing joints and fine tuning to meet Team Penske requirements as directed by management and engineering.
- Operate sanders, grinders and other fabrication equipment while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safety regulations are maintained.
- Ensure work area and equipment is properly maintained and meets safety standards.
- Review and quality control items to ensure they meet Team Penske standards.
- Maintain a clean work environment to the standard of Team Penske.
- Other duties assigned by management as needed and directed.
- Travel as needed for necessary rapid response at racetrack and for other functions supported and participated in by Team Penske.
- Perform repair work to vehicles and composite panels.
- Prepare parts careful of maintaining serial numbers and other identifiers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum High School Diploma.
- Minimum computer skills and proficiency expected (familiar with Microsoft Office).
- Must be able to manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Preferred, but not required, minimum of 3 years welding experience.
- Must be able to meet tight tolerances to ensure specifications are met.
- Must be able to liaise with other team members to ensure projects are completed on time to specification and quality standards.
- May be required to lift and carry objects up to 50lbs.
- May be required to climb inside of cars.
- May be required to work on back under car.
- May be required to push cars around the facility.
- Must be able to stand, squat, or kneel for extended periods of time.
