We are seeking an ambitious and personable Commissioning Engineer with a strong background in smoke ventilation systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician to develop their career, supervise project teams, and work on complex smoke ventilation projects across the UK.
Role Overview
- Wire, fix, and commission a wide range of smoke ventilation systems from multiple manufacturers.
- Ensure all systems operate correctly under every condition listed in commissioning reports, achieving compliance with design intent, statutory requirements, and recognised standards.
- Supervise and mentor team members of varying skill levels, helping them maximise their technical capabilities.
- Manage projects to ensure timely completion and high-quality delivery.
- Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and management to maintain professionalism and reputation.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance activities in line with contract scopes, manufacturer guidance, and applicable standards.
- Travel all across the UK, including periodic stopovers and overtime.
- Exercise delegated authority to implement commissioning changes, stop unsafe work, or refuse tasks where health and safety could be compromised.
Skills & Experience
- Full, clean driving licence required.
- Qualified electrician (NVQ Electrical Installations or equivalent).
- Minimum 2 years' experience commissioning smoke ventilation systems.
- Strong knowledge of British Standards and legislation, including Approved Document B, BS EN 12101, BS 9999, BS 9991, and BS 7346 pt8.
- Experience with multiple manufacturers' equipment, including Colt, SCS, FDS, and SE Controls (SE Controls training from Level 1-6 advantageous).
- Rooftop Safety / Work Restraint training (e.g., SpanSet), PASMA, IPAF certifications advantageous.
- SSSTS or higher certification beneficial.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
