This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer who is perhaps looking to move away from the shop floor and into a more commercially and operationally focused role, while still utilising their technical expertise. The position offers the chance to become a key link between customers, production, and internal departments within a supportive and approachable working environment.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the business, combining estimating responsibilities with planning and workload coordination. Working closely with engineering, production, procurement, and commercial teams, you will ensure accurate costings, effective scheduling, and clear communication across the organisation.
Key responsibilities as Planner / Estimator will include:
- Preparing accurate and competitive estimates within an engineering and manufacturing environment
- Interpreting technical drawings and specifications to build detailed cost breakdowns
- Creating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Supporting production planning and workload scheduling to ensure on-time delivery
- Liaising confidently with clients to clarify requirements and provide technical input where required
- Coordinating with internal stakeholders across engineering, purchasing, production, and management
- Monitoring project progress and updating plans or costings as necessary
- Contributing to continuous improvement within planning and estimating processes
My client is keen to speak with technically minded individuals who understand engineering processes and manufacturing environments. This role would particularly suit a time-served engineer seeking a new direction into planning and estimating.
You will ideally demonstrate:
- Estimating experience within an engineering and manufacturing setting
- Strong understanding and practical experience of Bills of Materials
- Planning and workload coordination experience
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Confident communication skills with the ability to liaise with customers and a wide range of internal teams
- A friendly, approachable manner with the ability to build strong working relationships
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
This is a well-established yet growing business with a strong reputation in its sector. The culture is supportive, collaborative, and team-focused. As an onsite role in Weymouth, you will be an integral part of day-to-day operations and have genuine visibility across the business.
