We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead its engineering function and drive improvements across manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for improving productivity, labour efficiency, capacity, manufacturing flow and operational performance, while developing the engineering team and supporting future growth.
The Opportunity as Engineering Manager
- Lead, coach and develop the engineering team.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across production.
- Improve productivity, labour utilisation, OEE, throughput and manufacturing efficiency.
- Establish labour standards, time studies and work measurement processes.
- Develop capacity models and support production and resource planning.
- Optimise factory layouts, material flow, workstations, tooling and assembly processes.
- Lead line balancing, takt time analysis, value stream mapping and standard work activities.
- Support NPI and ensure new products are introduced effectively into manufacture.
- Work with Design Engineering on DFM/DFA, DFMEA and PFMEA activities.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement and cost reduction.
- Develop business cases and lead capital investment projects for new equipment and manufacturing capability.
- Manage multiple engineering and improvement projects through to delivery.
What our client is looking for in you as their Engineering Manager
- A degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- Engineering leadership experience within a low-to-medium volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- A background working with smaller mechanical or electromechanical products, assemblies or systems.
- Strong Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
- Knowledge of work measurement, labour standards, capacity planning and production processes.
- Experience improving production lines, assembly operations and manufacturing efficiency.
- Strong CAD/CAM capability, ideally SolidWorks.
- Experience leading engineering teams and managing capital investment or improvement projects.
- Good understanding of OEE, productivity, labour efficiency and other manufacturing KPIs.
- Strong analytical, project management and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience within automotive/automotive supply, drive systems, robotics, hydraulics, tools, precision engineering, electric motors or similar mechanical/electromechanical manufacturing would be particularly relevant.
- Lean Six Sigma, automation, Industry 4.0 or digital manufacturing experience would be advantageous.
