An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced AOV / Smoke Vent Technical Supervisor to join a growing Fire & Smoke Division supporting commercial, residential, healthcare, and public-sector sites across the South East. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, ideal for someone with strong experience in smoke ventilation systems, commissioning, fault finding, and compliance who is looking to take ownership of technical standards and support the development of engineering teams.
You will act as the senior technical point of contact within the division, providing expert guidance on complex system faults, commissioning activities, cause-and-effect verification, and smoke control compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary technical escalation point for engineers across smoke ventilation and AOV systems.
- Lead complex fault diagnosis across control panels, field devices, interfaces, and system wiring.
- Validate cause-and-effect programming against fire strategies and operational requirements.
- Oversee commissioning, testing, and technical sign-off of smoke control and AOV systems.
- Ensure systems are correctly configured and operating in accordance with relevant standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Review inspection reports, commissioning records, and remedial recommendations.
- Conduct technical audits and quality assurance checks on completed works.
- Provide technical support on natural and mechanical smoke ventilation systems, smoke shafts, powered vents, smoke dampers, and associated controls.
- Support engineers with technical development, mentoring, and on-site guidance.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams on technical matters.
- Maintain high standards of compliance, documentation, reporting, and system traceability.
- Proven experience working with AOV and smoke ventilation systems.
- Strong knowledge of smoke control panels, system logic, and cause-and-effect programming.
- Experience with manufacturers such as Advance Air, Colt, Action Air, SC Controls, or similar systems.
- Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability.
- Good understanding of smoke dampers, system integration, and fire alarm interfaces.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support engineers.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Smoke control commissioning experience.
- Knowledge of BS EN 12101 and BS 9999 requirements.
- Experience working with BMS interfaces.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
- Experience using CAFM or asset management systems.
£35,000 - £40,000 basic salary depending on experience. Company vehicle. Ongoing manufacturer and technical training.
