About Team Kenya
Team Kenya is a small UK charity working in partnership with a Kenyan NGO, Twende Pamoja, to educate girls, empower women and transform poor communities in Ndhiwa, rural Western Kenya.
Role Description
You will liaise with trustees and any lead volunteers to ensure we have the necessary resources to deliver our current strategy. You will support volunteers in their roles as required and maintain accurate records for trustees. You will develop good relationships with lead volunteers and help them to communicate and network with each other. A visit to Kenya to see Twende Pamoja's projects in action and how truly impactful they are is highly recommended. This is especially important as it will allow you to experience staying at Karibuni Eco-Cottages – the hub of Twende Pamoja's exciting new social enterprise developments and other innovative projects and also experience for yourself life in this isolated but beautiful part of western Kenya.
As a small, volunteer‑led charity, we rely on trustees to support the implementation of our strategy. This is a varied role with oversight of multiple areas:
- Recruit new volunteers and coordinate volunteer support for specific areas of our strategy – digital, social enterprise, communications and engagement.
- Maintain an overview of our volunteer structure as it develops.
- Ensure that all volunteers understand our approach and how we work, as well as the potential and importance of the Karibuni social enterprise strategy.
- Support the work of our volunteers, playing a crucial role in driving real change and transforming the lives of a small rural community in western Kenya.
- Promote the impact of our partner organisation's work in Kenya, increasing our reach and income in the UK.
Qualifications
- Experience of working with volunteers.
- Interest in global issues such as economic and environmental sustainability and climate change.
- Successful track record in strategy development and implementation.
- Experience at a senior management or leadership level.
- Good people management skills and a collaborative approach to working.
- Capacity to work flexibly to support volunteers and keep them engaged with the charity.
- Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to take collective responsibility for governance of the charity.
- Experience working with a shared passion for making a difference.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to analyse risks and opportunities and take a balanced approach to both.
- Extensive networks and willingness to draw on contacts as appropriate.
- Willingness to make a long‑term commitment to Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja.
