My client is seeking an experienced Production Manager with a strong background in precision machining and CNC operations to lead their shop floor and mentor their production team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with solid production operational experience who can balance strategic oversight with day-to-day delivery. You will play a key role in driving performance, developing people, and ensuring the business maintains the high standards its reputation is built on. This is an onsite role based in Weymouth, Dorset.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor team leaders, CNC machinists, and production staff
- Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performance culture across the shop floor
- Oversee daily production operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery
- Implement and improve production planning and workflow processes
- Drive operational performance using KPIs (OEE, delivery performance, productivity, scrap reduction)
- Ensure compliance with aerospace, defence, and automotive quality standards
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Commercial teams to ensure smooth job transitions
- Maintain and promote high standards of health & safety
Qualifications
- Proven production operational experience within a precision engineering or CNC machining environment
- Strong technical understanding of CNC milling, turning, and multi-axis machining
- Demonstrable experience mentoring and developing production teams
- A practical, hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate and support others
- Experience supplying regulated sectors such as aerospace and/or defence is advantageous
- Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance quality, cost, and delivery
