Senior Production Engineer Manufacturing & Engineering Operations Dorset Salary: DOE. We're looking for a hands-on Senior Production Engineer on behalf of our client to help shape, improve and evolve the way products move through manufacturing. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving practical problems, improving processes, and making a real impact on the shop floor - not just from behind a desk. You'll work closely with production, quality, design and supply chain teams to drive smarter ways of working, improve efficiency, and support the introduction of new ideas, equipment and manufacturing methods. The environment is fast-paced, technically varied, and suited to someone who enjoys balancing day-to-day engineering support with longer-term continuous improvement projects. We're supporting an established engineering and manufacturing business in the search for an experienced Senior Production Engineer to join their team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in improving manufacturing performance, driving continuous improvement initiatives and supporting production operations across a technically varied environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain production documentation, work instructions and process flows
- Design jigs, fixtures and tooling to improve efficiency and repeatability
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities
- Support production teams with process troubleshooting and technical issues
- Use SPC and process capability tools to improve manufacturing performance
- Support automation, process standardisation and layout improvements
- Work closely with quality, engineering and supply chain teams to improve manufacturability and product quality
- Carry out time studies, capacity reviews and process improvement activities
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and quality standards across manufacturing operations
What you will bring to the table
- Experience within a Manufacturing, Production or Mechanical Engineering role
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
- Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production routings
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- HND, degree or equivalent engineering qualification
Desirable extras
- Electro-mechanical manufacturing experience
- Exposure to flow-line manufacturing, castings or injection moulding
- Experience with LabVIEW or DAQ equipment
- Six Sigma Green Belt or similar continuous improvement qualification
