Team GB is the British and Northern Irish Olympic team – one of the nation’s most successful teams and one of its favourite brands.
Run by the British Olympic Association (BOA), Team GB competes at Olympic and Olympic Winter Games and other events such as the European Games, Youth Olympic Games and European Youth Olympic Festivals.
The BOA’s primary purpose is to
- Select, lead and manage Team GB at Olympic and Olympic Winter Games and all International Olympic Committee (IOC) and European Olympic Committee (EOC) accredited events such as Youth Olympic Games, European Youth Olympic Festivals and the European Games, and;
- Develop the Olympic Movement and promote the principles and values of Olympism in our territory of responsibility.
The BOA is independent and privately funded.
Our success is entirely dependent upon the income we receive from our commercial programmes, including but not limited to sponsorship, fundraising, licensing and events.
The Role
Key Responsibilities
- Ownership of the purchasing process; new supplier creation, matching POs to invoices.
- First finance review for all credit card expenses, ensuring correct support and coding.
- Processing manual expenses from non-staff such as athletes and volunteers.
- Support the Financial Accountant with accurate day-to-day accounting processes, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payment runs and supplier/customer queries.
- Support with the completion of bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Support in preparing month end journals.
- Support on VAT return reporting and record keeping.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, systems use and reporting accuracy while continuing to develop towards a professional accounting qualification.
Key Challenges in Delivering the Role
- Managing a high volume of transactions accurately and to tight deadlines, particularly during payment runs, month-end and event activity.
- Ensuring purchase orders, invoices, expenses and coding are complete, accurate and properly supported.
- Balancing day-to-day finance duties with ongoing study towards a professional accounting qualification.
- Providing responsive, professional support to colleagues, suppliers, athletes and volunteers while maintaining clear finance processes.
Key Relationships
The role is a key part of the Finance team, reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the Financial Accountant.
The postholder will act as a primary point of contact for purchasing and expenses queries across the organisation, providing clear and helpful support to colleagues while also liaising professionally with Team GB suppliers and customers.
Skills and Experience
- Must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of working in a busy Accounts Payable/Receivable environment
- Personable and approachable
- Strong problem-solving skills with great attention to detail
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to think creatively, highly driven and self-motivated
- Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work within a team
- Must have right to work in the UK. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role

- Working with Sage Intacct finance system, Yooz and Webexpenses
What We Offer
- The salary band for the role is £32k to £37k depending on experience.
- Support to complete professional accounting qualification (on completion of probation period and in agreement with line manager)
- 22 days of annual leave in increasing to 25 days after two years in the role
- Additional time off over the festive season
- Possibility to work 2 weeks a year remotely from anywhere (subject to time zone being appropriate)
