The School of Science brings together three key subject areas; Environmental Sciences, Biomedical and Forensic Science and Psychology. The School has strong links with key external agencies including the University Hospitals for Derby and Burton NHS Trust who support the Biomedical Sciences IBMS provision as well as research collaborations. The School also works with regional forensic science agencies including the police and private forensic science labs as well as numerous environmental agencies locally, nationally and internationally focusing on conservation, habitat management and environmental regeneration.
About The Role
The Psychology subject area is home to the University’s Psychology and Counselling and Psychotherapy provision, delivered at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. As a TEF Gold institution, we are proud to contribute high quality programmes grounded in psychological and behavioural science with a significant focus on applied psychology and professional practice. We host a large accredited provision across several Professional and Statutory Regulatory Bodies (including the BABCP, BACP, BPS, CIEHF, HCPC and NCPS). Programmes range from undergraduate underpinnings and initial postgraduate training for some psychological professions, to delivery that supports careers in sectors such as marketing, business, management and leadership (and many more). Furthermore we offer training in a range of therapeutic modalities across the counselling and psychotherapy courses and contribute to the development of the wider psychological workforce through our NHS based commissioned programmes. In Psychology our provision is underpinned by excellent student support to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students and high quality progression opportunities into a range of careers. Our delivery is further underpinned by high quality scientific research and scholarly activity, with industry informed and based research informing and leading the development of curriculum to ensure programmes are meeting the needs of employers to foster the success of our graduates from across the subject.
We are excited to offer this fixed term position to support the delivery of our MSc Behaviour Change programme. This role is to deliver module leadership, teaching and assessment across modules on the MSc Behaviour Change programme. The programme is delivered via a hybrid model (block study) with some delivery supported remotely and one block study week per module which is delivered intensively on campus. Objectives of the post holder will be to contribute to the leadership and delivery of excellence in teaching on specific modules on this programme, and contribute to achievement of the highest outcomes for our students through excellent teaching and student support.
The role may include supporting our marketing events (e.g., open days) and outreach (e.g., school visits) which occasionally take place into evenings and at weekends. We do support hybrid working as business needs permit and in agreement with the Subject Lead.
The role is to fulfil 157.5 hours of work over a 10 month fixed term contract. The pattern of work will vary week by week depending on need. Actual hours and days will be described in a ‘Schedule of Work’. Salary range from £16.51 - £41.29 per hour. The lower rate is for non-teaching scheduled work, whereas the higher rate is an enhanced rate for teaching and additional duties/meetings. Your actual hourly rate is £16.51 per hour. The rate of £41.29 includes 1 hour of teaching time and 1.5 hours of prep/marking/admin.
About You
You will contribute to teaching across our excellent provision to enhance its quality and ensure an outstanding student experience. There is an expectation of working collaboratively across the Psychology subject area and potentially more widely across the college and institution to support curriculum contribution. As such skills in communication and collaboration are vital. We would especially welcome applications from candidates with expertise in behaviour change, and those who have previous experience of working in and training in behaviour change.
- Principal accountabilities
- Support for administration of the MSc Behaviour Change programme
- Formal scheduled delivery of Teaching, Lectures or Workshops.
- Preparation of teaching materials required in the delivery of the above.
- Preparation of Reading Lists.
- Responsibility for keeping of University records, reports or returns as appropriate including marks and notes are submitted to the module leader for assessment boards.
- Contribution to assessment design as appropriate.
- Marking, moderation and electronic submission of marks as required.
- Supervision of Doctoral Research.
- Responsibility for tutorials.
- Student Support.
- Independent Studies supervision.
- Attendance at the following Boards/Meetings, where it is appropriate and where they can be arranged to fit in with other commitments: Development / training meetings and events; Probation and Development Review; Programme Committees and Subject/Team Meetings; Any relevant meetings associated with internal and/or external periodic scrutiny such as QAA; College Research Committee; College Research Ethics Committee; Assessment Boards

Essential Criteria
Qualifications
A first degree in a discipline appropriate to the discipline being taught or equivalent professional experience. PhD (near submission or submitted & awaiting examination), Professional Doctorate in a professional area of Psychology, or equivalence accepted in a relevant subject area, for example by publication or through appropriate professional achievement.
Experience
Experience of working in an industry related to the discipline being taught. Experience of delivering behaviour change curriculum in higher education.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Ability to teach at the appropriate level. Ability to relate theory to practice. Ability to work to deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good presentation skills.
