Teacher of English in West Kirby

A full‑time, fixed‑term (12 months) maternity cover for a Teacher of English at West Kirby Grammar School, commencing September 2026.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, and where possible, at A‑level.
• Design and deliver the English curriculum (Literature, Language and Film Studies) in line with Eduqas GCSE and AQA/EDUQAS A‑level specifications.
• Assess student progress, provide timely feedback, and use data to inform instruction.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, development and cohesive teaching strategies.
• Contribute positively to extracurricular and enrichment activities such as reading programmes, trips and literary events.
• Support the department’s aspiration to provide ambition and challenge for all students.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or equivalent in English or a closely related subject (essential).
• Qualified Teacher Status (secondary phase) (essential).
• Further degree or related qualification (desirable).
• Successful delivery of English at KS3 and KS4 (essential).
• Ability to teach English at Advanced Level (desirable).
• Experience of supporting students in extended writing and analytical skills (essential).
• Experience of contributing to extracurricular or enrichment opportunities such as reading programmes, trips or literary activities (desirable).

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong understanding of curriculum design and implementation in English (essential).
• Ability to explain complex literary and linguistic concepts clearly and effectively (essential).
• Ability to inspire and challenge students to achieve highly (essential).
• Effective assessment methods to monitor student progress and inform teaching (essential).
• A deep understanding of best pedagogical practice to ensure ambition and challenge for all students (essential).
• Ability to contribute positively to collaborative departmental planning and development (essential).
• Effective use of interactive technology in teaching and performance work (desirable).
• Understanding of historical scholarship and its relevance to classroom teaching (desirable).
