Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of pastoral care and behaviour, including elements of attendance and student welfare for a designated Key Stage.
  • Line-manage and support pastoral staff, including Assistant Pastoral Leads and Intervention Leads.
  • Drive high standards of behaviour, engagement and attendance through effective systems and interventions.
  • Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Lead on serious behaviour incidents, ensuring appropriate investigation, intervention and follow-up.
  • Monitor and analyse student data to identify trends and implement targeted support strategies.
  • Work closely with families, external agencies and stakeholders to support students with additional needs.
  • Contribute to whole-school pastoral strategy, policies and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant experience in a pastoral leadership role within a secondary school.
  • Proven track record of improving student behaviour, attendance and outcomes.
  • A commitment to inclusion and improving outcomes for disadvantaged students.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing staff.
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding, student wellbeing and inclusive practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.

  • Experience working with vulnerable students and complex family situations.
  • Knowledge of restorative approaches and trauma-informed practice.

  • All necessary safeguarding checks will be undertaken, including an Enhanced DBS plus Children’s Barred List Check.
  • The role is subject to enhanced regulation of activities with children; applicants must not be barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
  • The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020).
