To ensure high quality education for all pupils in a designated class and to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances require in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Principal.

Areas of Responsibility and Key Tasks:

  • Plan, teach, and manage the class, setting clear teaching objectives, tasks and expectations.
  • Identify SEN or high‑ability pupils and provide differentiated support.
  • Provide clear lesson structures, use varied teaching methods and facilitate effective questioning.
  • Use termly assessments, monitor pupil progress and report outcomes to parents and the school.
  • Develop learning resources and promote library, IT and other sources.
  • Encourage discipline, punctuality, learning standards and homework completion.
  • Select appropriate learning resources, support classroom management and maintain the right pace.
  • Take part in curriculum development, contribute to whole‑school planning and provide leadership over a subject or aspect of the school's work when required.
  • Build constructive relationships with staff, parents and carers and coordinate with support staff.
  • Meet work‑time and performance requirements, including pre‑school, break‑time duties and professional development.
  • Evaluate own teaching critically to improve effectiveness and remain up‑to‑date with educational practice.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and a degree or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching KS2 in a primary school setting.
  • Experience working with SEN pupils and safeguarding in a primary school.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK curriculum, assessment, legislation and safeguarding requirements.
  • Proven ability to plan, teach and assess pupils’ learning.

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching across the whole primary age range.
  • Experience working in partnership with parents.
  • Experience working with specific SEN issues such as ADHD or dyslexia.
  • Mathematics/Science/Art skills and qualifications.
  • Evidence of INSET participation and commitment to further professional development.
