Further details about the role: This is an exciting opportunity to join Horsforth Newlaithes Primary School at an important stage in our development. From September 2026, we are looking to appoint a class teacher who is ambitious for children, committed to high-quality teaching and excited by the opportunity to contribute to the next stage of our school improvement journey. The successful candidate may be deployed in EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, depending on the needs of the school and the strengths, experience and potential of the successful applicant. We therefore welcome applications from teachers across the primary phase, including early career teachers, experienced class teachers and those with particular expertise in early years, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, phonics, curriculum, SEND or adaptive teaching.
At Newlaithes, we are strengthening our approach to curriculum, teaching and provision across the school. We are looking for teachers who understand that excellent teaching is both precise and full of life: rooted in strong subject knowledge, clear explanation, effective modelling, purposeful practice, careful assessment and positive relationships. In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we are investing significantly in curriculum, provision and resources for our 4- to 7-year-olds. Across Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we are developing an approach that balances explicit teaching with purposeful, high-quality provision. This means ensuring that key knowledge, vocabulary and skills are taught clearly, while also giving children rich opportunities to explore, practise, talk, create and apply their learning through play and enquiry. In Key Stage 2, our focus is on ensuring that teaching, learning and curriculum provision are as effective as possible for every child. We are looking for practitioners who can bring clarity, warmth, energy and ambition to the classroom, while using evidence-informed approaches such as explicit instruction, adaptive teaching and responsive assessment to secure strong outcomes.
This role would suit someone who: Has high expectations for all pupils; creates a calm, purposeful and inclusive classroom environment; plans and teaches lessons that are clear, ambitious and appropriately adapted; uses assessment to check understanding and respond to pupils’ needs; builds positive relationships with children, families and colleagues; is reflective, professional and open to feedback; wants to contribute to curriculum, teaching, provision and wider school improvement; believes that children should experience both high standards and the joy, creativity and magic of childhood.
The successful candidate will join a committed and supportive team with a shared belief that every child should belong, believe and become. We are proud of our school, but we are not standing still. We are looking for someone who wants to help us build something exceptional for our children and community.
Commitment to safeguarding: We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and statutory guidance, including KCSIE. The successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, checks regarding suitability to work with children, verification of qualifications, right to work checks, and any other relevant pre-employment checks. Online searches may be carried out on shortlisted candidates as part of our checks. Any matters arising from these checks may be discussed with candidates as part of the recruitment process.
