We are seeking to appoint a Head of Student Wellbeing, Safeguarding and Behaviour, a newly created senior leadership role which will help shape the next chapter of our school’s development. This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspiring and values driven professional to lead whole school systems that keep our students safe, supported, regulated and ready to learn.

As an integral member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership for:

  • Safeguarding (as Lead DSL)
  • Behaviour and positive behaviour support
  • Wellbeing and pastoral care
  • Therapeutic practice and multi‑agency collaboration

You will oversee, develop and strengthen the systems that protect and support our pupils, working closely with families, staff, external professionals and the wider community. This role is central to ensuring our learners feel safe, understood and valued and that they are equipped with the skills they need for adulthood. As this is a brand new role, you will have the exciting opportunity to shape the strategic vision, develop services and build capacity across safeguarding, wellbeing, behaviour and therapeutic provision.

We welcome applications from candidates with leadership experience in social care, health and therapeutic services, youth justice or education. You will be:

  • A confident and compassionate leader.
  • Skilled at managing complex situations and making sound decisions.
  • A strong communicator who can motivate others and work collaboratively.
  • Passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable young people.
  • Emotionally resilient, reflective and committed to ongoing professional learning.

The school offers its staff:

  • A unique and rewarding leadership role working with incredible young people; no two days are the same.
  • A supportive and caring staff culture, where teamwork, wellbeing and professional respect matter.
  • Strong values and a positive, caring culture.
  • Opportunities for professional development and leadership growth.
  • The chance to build and develop a role that makes a tangible, lasting difference.
  • A team that works hard, supports one another, and values work life balance.

The role is paid on NJC PO17 with an additional market forces supplement applied to align the overall package with teacher’s Leadership Scale L13–L14. The salary is pro-rata’d to reflect the role being term time only plus 20 days. Actual salary is £66,118–£67,764.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS (formerly CRB) from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
