Thornden School would like to appoint an enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be a self‑motivated individual who is passionate about Design & Technology. We welcome applications from teachers at all stages of their career, including Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
Within the Technology department, we offer a wide range of courses that come under the Technology umbrella. In Key Stage 3, students follow modular courses in key material areas within Design & Technology, including Food, Graphics, Systems/Engineering, Textiles, and Resistant Materials. We are a popular choice for our students at GCSE level, offering GCSE Design & Technology in Paper & Boards, Timbers, Textiles, GCSE Engineering, and GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition.
The successful candidate will need to be able to teach a wide range of material areas at Key Stage 3; however, applications are welcome from candidates who specialise in any of the following: Food Preparation & Nutrition or Design & Technology at Key Stage 4 GCSE level.

About the role
- Deliver high‑quality Design and Technology lessons to Key Stage 3 and 4 students
- Support the department in raising and maintaining high standards of student attainment and achievement
- Promote active learning, monitor progress, and be accountable for student progress in Design and Technology
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, aligned with safeguarding practices
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and participate in departmental activities, including trips and open days.
We are seeking an individual who has:
- A degree in a relevant subject and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven experience teaching or training in a comprehensive school setting, covering Key Stages 3 and 4
- Competence in teaching at least one of the following to GCSE level: Food Preparation & Nutrition, Design & Technology
- A strong understanding of safeguarding practices, classroom management skills, and the ability to foster a safe learning environment
- Emotional resilience, professionalism, and a collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills.
