The Headteacher and Governors at Beechwood Primary School and Nursery are looking to appoint a teaching assistant for a September start to work with pupils with Special Educational Needs. We are looking for a teaching assistant who will share our school values and who has the ability and enthusiasm to work with and support SEND pupils either 1:1 or within small groups.

Previous experience of working with SEND pupils is essential. This position is suitable for a teaching assistant with proven experience and an understanding of the importance of building a trusted relationship to meet a child's social and emotional needs. The successful candidate should be a positive role model and support with all aspects of self-esteem.

Essential Criteria:

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent, e.g. BTEC National Diploma.
  • Experience of working within a school/nursery setting.
  • Experience of working closely and effectively with a class teacher.
  • Ability to support the implementation of strategies suggested by external advisors, e.g. educational psychologist.
  • Ability to apply innovative strategies to further the child’s engagement and learning.
  • Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Skills and expertise in understanding the needs of specific pupils.
  • Knowledge of how to help adapt and deliver support to meet individual needs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Enthusiastic and a good sense of humour.
  • Motivation and initiative to develop your own ideas and strategies.
