Are you passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs? If you answered yes, then this job opportunity for an SEN(D) Teaching Assistant may be for you! A SEN/PRU Primary/Secondary School in Yeovil is seeking a dedicated SEN(D) Teaching Assistant to join their team.

The Role:

You will be responsible for supporting classroom teachers in providing the best support possible to students ranging in the ages 7-16 years old (KS2, KS3 and KS4), with various SEN and behavioural difficulties. This is a Pupil Referral Unit school setting, meaning students may have difficulties with:

  • Communication and interaction
  • Cognition and learning
  • Social, emotional, and mental health
  • Sensory or physical needs (SEMH)
  • General behavioural difficulties

This school provides education for children and young people who are unable to attend mainstream school. This includes pupils at risk of exclusion or pupils that have been permanently excluded, as well as those suffering from mental health needs. It is believed by those in the school that each pupil has individual and unique needs, with an aim to provide as much support as needed to allow pupils to reach their full potential by providing the best possible learning conditions for everyone.

  • Applicant must be comfortable working in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)
  • A caring, patient, and resilient individual with a compassionate approach to supporting young people
  • SEN(D) experience in or out of an educational setting
  • Able to collaborate with teachers and other support staff
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
  • Able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and safely
