About the Role

As an Engagement Coach, you will work closely with learners who face barriers such as exclusion, trauma, SEMH needs, and low attendance. Your primary focus will be to increase engagement, motivation, and participation in learning. You will act as a key adult, helping learners rebuild trust in education and develop the confidence, behaviour, and skills needed to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Re-engage students who are at risk of or have disengaged from education
  • Support learners to improve attendance, behaviour, and participation
  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to manage behaviour
  • Motivate learners who may see little value in education
  • Work alongside tutors to increase classroom engagement
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and disclosures

Who You’ll Work With:

You will support learners who may:

  • Have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion
  • Experience trauma, bereavement, or family breakdown
  • Have low attendance and distrust of education
  • Be involved in multi-agency or youth justice support
  • Be vulnerable to exploitation or anti-social behaviour

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with young people with complex needs (NOT ESSENTIAL)
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk indicators
  • Ability to motivate and inspire disengaged learners
  • Strong organisational skills and accurate record-keeping
  • Experience working collaboratively with other professionals

Our Values:

We are seeking someone who will:

  • Take early action to prevent disengagement
  • Balance compassion with high expectations
  • Be a positive and relatable role model
  • Champion equality and inclusion
  • Prioritise safeguarding at all times
  • Measure success through progress, wellbeing, and engagement
