We are seeking confident, resilient individuals to work in schools across Bristol as Unqualified Behaviour Support Mentors, supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, Autism and additional learning needs. This role is ideal for candidates who have experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals, and are looking to apply their skills in an educational setting.
Your ability to stay calm, build trust and respond positively can have a lasting impact on a young person's future. You will work closely with pupils who require consistent behavioural and emotional support to engage in education. This includes working 1:1 and in small groups, helping pupils manage behaviour, build confidence and access learning.
Pupils may present with:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
- Challenging or dysregulated behaviour
- Autism (ASC) and communication needs
- ADHD and attention difficulties
- Anxiety, low confidence or disrupted engagement
This is a hands-on, rewarding role where relationship-building and consistency are key.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support
- Help pupils regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies
- Build strong, consistent and trusting relationships with students
- Support pupils to re-engage with lessons and routines
- Use calm, structured approaches to manage behaviour
- Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
- Follow behaviour plans and individual support strategies
- Promote resilience, independence and positive choices
Ideal Candidate Experience:
- Support work or care settings (children or adults)
- Behaviour mentoring or SEMH environments
- Youth work, outreach or community support
- Residential care or support services
- Alternative provision or specialist SEN settings
Candidate Skills:
- Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Resilience, patience and emotional awareness
- Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional needs
- Proactive and positive approach
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
- Experience supporting SEMH or Autism
