TP Tutors are looking for an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and dynamic team at a school in Thetford, starting from January on a full-time, long-term supply basis. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to thrive both academically and personally in a nurturing environment.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students to provide tailored support, helping them manage their emotions, behaviour, and learning in the classroom. You will work under the direction of the class teacher and the SENCO, supporting students individually and in small groups, ensuring they receive the necessary emotional and educational support to succeed. The role requires a compassionate approach and the ability to adapt to the varied needs of students with SEMH challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students with SEMH needs in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Help manage student behaviour and emotions, using de-escalation techniques as necessary
  • Provide academic support tailored to individual students’ needs, ensuring engagement and progress
  • Work with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised learning plans
  • Support the development of social skills and self-regulation in students
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom activities
  • Monitor and report on student progress, sharing observations with the wider team
Pre-requisites:
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs (in schools or relevant settings)
  • Two recent references
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and emotional support techniques
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and families
