Location: Cwmbran, South Wales

Pay Rate: £110 - £120 per day

Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Contract: Full Academic Year

An exciting opportunity is available for an aspiring Trainee Behaviour Mentor at a supportive secondary school near the Cwmbran area. This role is perfect for someone looking to build behaviour management skills, confidence in leading classrooms, and a strong foundation for a future teaching career. You will have the opportunity to lead and manage classes, delivering pre-prepared lessons, so no lesson planning is required. However, confidence, enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate and engage young people are essential for success in this role.

You'll also work closely with the school's well‑established Specialist Resource Base (SRB), giving you valuable hands‑on experience with pupils who have additional learning or behavioural needs. You'll be part of a supportive team that will guide you as you grow in your role. This position offers real, practical classroom experience, helping you build resilience, confidence, and the essential skills needed to progress into teaching or further education pathways.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support pupils aged 11-16 both in the classroom and through targeted 1:1 or small group intervention sessions.
  • Providing general classroom support and helping maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Stepping up to lead a class when required, developing confidence in classroom supervision.
  • Applying behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Encouraging emotional wellbeing and helping pupils develop coping strategies.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and ALN teams to promote inclusion.

Requirements

  • To demonstrate commitment to working in education, applicants must hold or be willing to apply for:
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration.
  • Be aged 18 or over.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
  • Level 2 Safeguarding training.
  • A minimum of two professional references covering 24 months of employment.
