We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary SEN school in Rochdale for a committed and resilient Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health SEMH needs and significant behavioural challenges.

This is a full time, long term position with an immediate start, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast paced, supportive environment and is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one to one and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behaviour needs
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them regulate emotions
  • Support behaviour plans, de-escalation, and daily routines
  • Encourage engagement, resilience, and positive choices
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain a safe and structured environment
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, consistency, and personalised support throughout the school day

Requirements

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour
  • Background in youth work, mentoring, care, alternative provision, or similar
  • Calm, confident, patient, and able to manage difficult situations professionally
  • Full time availability, Monday to Friday
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one
