Role Overview β Year 1: Classroom Experience
As a successful Future Teacher, you\βll take on the role of a Cover Supervisor within a secondary school in the Salisbury area. Your responsibilities will include stepping in during short-term teacher absences, ensuring continuity in student learning by overseeing tasks set by the teacher. While there\βs no active teaching, marking, or planning required at this stage, you\βll provide classroom supervision, deliver a high-quality learning experience, and gain valuable insights into the teaching profession.
Year 2: Initial Teacher Training (ITT) with QTS
Following a successful first year in the programme, you\βll transition into the ITT year, where you will begin formal teacher training while remaining in a paid position. This second year is designed to give you the structure, support, and training needed to qualify as a teacher. During your ITT year, you will:
- Work towards gainingQualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Continue earning a salary while training
- Benefit from an assigned school-based mentor and support from a recognised ITT provider
- Participate in formal training sessions and school-based study days
- Be observed regularly and receive personalised feedback to support your development
- Take responsibility for planning and delivering lessons across your subject area
- Contribute to assessment, marking, and student progress tracking
- Complete teaching standards portfolios and written assignments (PGCE optional depending on provider)
This year-long training period ensures you\βre fully prepared for a successful and confident start to your teaching career.

- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM β 4:00 PM timetable
- Immediate school placement post-graduation

- Collaborate with staff to support student development through pastoral systems
- Familiarise yourself with school policies and understand their rationale for development
- Master the syllabus in your subject area and explore how your degree knowledge can be applied, presenting this to the school
- Support students in coursework and exam preparation
