Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a secondary school to recruit a skilled and organised Senior Science Technician to support the delivery of high-quality science education. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Science Technician or science graduate looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring practical lessons run smoothly, maintaining laboratory resources, supporting health and safety compliance, and assisting with the day-to-day management of the science department.

The Role:

  • Prepare and assemble equipment, materials, chemicals, and resources for practical science lessons and examinations
  • Ensure laboratories, preparation rooms, and equipment are maintained to a high standard
  • Support the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals, biological materials, and scientific equipment
  • Maintain stock levels, complete audits, and coordinate the ordering of departmental resources
  • Assist with risk assessments for practical activities and demonstrations
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and support for Science Technician staff
  • Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and modifications to equipment where required
  • Support practical examinations and departmental enrichment activities, including clubs, open evenings, and educational visits
  • Assist with maintaining departmental inventories and health and safety records
  • Ensure compliance with COSHH regulations and departmental safety procedures
  • Support the maintenance and care of living organisms and specialist scientific resources where applicable

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have a strong background or qualification in science, such as GCSE, A-Level, HNC, or equivalent
  • Have previous experience working within a laboratory, educational, or technical support environment
  • Possess excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Have a thorough understanding of health and safety procedures within a science setting
  • Be confident working independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be proactive, flexible, and committed to supporting student learning
