The Role:
As a D&T Technician, you will support the Design & Technology department by ensuring lessons run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will work closely with teaching staff to prepare materials, maintain equipment, and help create an engaging learning environment for students studying a range of D&T subjects.
Main Responsibilities:
- Preparing materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons
- Assisting teachers with workshop, engineering, woodwork, resistant materials, product design, and construction activities
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Maintaining, cleaning, and repairing tools, machinery, and equipment where appropriate
- Managing stock levels and ordering materials as required
- Organising and storing resources safely and efficiently
- Supporting the use of specialist equipment, including CAD/CAM machinery, laser cutters, and 3D printers (where applicable)
- Carrying out risk assessments and maintaining safety records
- Supporting staff and students during practical lessons
- Helping maintain a safe, organised, and productive workshop environment
What We're Looking For:
We'd love to hear from candidates with:
- Previous experience as a Design & Technology Technician
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, construction, carpentry, mechanics, fabrication, or workshop environments
- Knowledge of workshop health and safety procedures
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A proactive and practical approach to problem-solving
- Experience within schools (desirable but not essential)
